Nerf N-Force Sword - Shadow Fury Blue Review

Nerf N-Force Sword - Shadow Fury Blue

Surprisingly durable. Hurts enough that you don't want to get hit, but not enough to cause a bruise. After a month of hard use from teen & pre-teen boys, they're holding up. Highly recommend.
Regrettably, an itchy Christmas "Buy Now" trigger finger caused me to inadvertently purchase from a non-Amazon source (Target) which added on shipping and handling fees that tripled the price of the product.

Nerf N-Force Marauder Long Sword - Red Review

Nerf N-Force Marauder Long Sword - Red

First thing's first, let's not talk about the price.
If you are like me, you've been on the fence about the whole Nerf line of swords. Probably not sure of whether they are worth the money, after all your kids probably have a good time with the foam swords you've been getting at the dollar store, even though they only last a few fights.
But maybe you crave something a bit more? Maybe you are thinking "man these swords LOOK cool....but the ones in the stores are always so beaten up.... I don't know..."
We took the plunge a few months ago on the Nerf Nforce swords, the Thunderfury and the Shadowfury. Those swords are just over ten bucks each and they have held up remarkably well. We battle about every other day for a half hour and the swords show a few nicks and scratches but in terms of overall durability, they can't be beaten. My oldest son is almost 5 and we really swing them pretty hard (well, he does at least) and they show no signs of deterioration.
So now the Marauder. Well while the Nforce swords are very light and easy to swing around, the Marauder is not a little kid sword. For most kids this is a two-hand-holding kind of sword and it is very long, almost 3 1/2 feet long. I think ages 6-14 will find this sword is perfect for them and LARPers can rejoice in knowing they can repaint or cover this sword and it will still look very nice.
The design is great, dare I say perfect. The handle is very long, enough so that as a 30 year old adult I can comfortably put both hands on the handle and have a little room to spare. The blade comes out from the hilt thin and then widens into a broadsword type of blade. This part of the sword is about 2 1/2 feet long and it just feels perfect. It's long but not too long.
The marauder is about twice as "thick" with the foam blade as the Thunder and Shadow Fury. This is nice because it's a little more "squishy" than those and also because you are dealing with a "flat" blade here compared to the circular design of the other swords.
Battling someone with the Fury swords with your Marauder is a mismatch because the sheer girth of your sword just overpowers the other swords. You can't really parry the Marauder because the weight of the sword crashing down is too much for the Fury swords. I mean you won't break them, but you will certainly knock them out of their hands a lot.
I didn't know NERF was making another sword and I am VERY happy that they did. I seriously look forward to what they come out with in the future as I am already eagerly awaiting an Nforce Battle Axe, Pole Arm and maybe, just maybe, a Morning Star.
Overall, this is the best toy sword you can buy for the money. Safe, fun, and realistic. Great job Hasbro and Nerf!

I have had this toy for 6 months and I love it. I play with it every day. Don't ever think this toy is not cool.
When you swing it around it looks real. You can't go wrong with this toy.

Star Wars E3 BASIC LIGHTSABER RED Review

Star Wars E3 BASIC LIGHTSABER RED

My two children, husband and I are all very happy with the non-battery operated line of Hasbro lightsabres and we own four different models, this is one of them. We had first purchased the Hasbro battery operated light sabers and were not happy with them. If you are interested in my review of those different, more expensive toys, see those items to find my review.
The red lightsabre with the straight handle is used by Darth Vader, and Emperor Paletine. (Count Dooku's has an angled handle and is a different model than this one.) The red lightsabers are only used by the "dark side" characters; the Jedi have different blade-color lightsabres.
These less expensive and more durable light sabers are my children's favorites and preferred by my husband and I for these reasons:
a.They are more lightweight than the electronic models and therefore are easier to carry and easier to grip/hold with one hand.
b.The blades fully retract into the handle (just like they do in the movies---the electronic models don't do this) and they LOCK in the closed position so they don't fall open while carrying or wearing them.
c.The lock is easy to operate; you hold it down and flick the blade to extend the "laser blade".
d.When flicking it open, it takes just one quick flick to extend the blade completely open, and even children aged 4 can do this with one flick after a few practices.
e.It closes very easily. My children prefer to push it (gently) into the ground or into the floor to close it.
f.The built in clip works well to clip the closed unit onto the waistband of the pants, a pants pocket or a belt. Due to good design of the locking mechanism, the unit stays closed/retracted while worn in this manner.
g.The lack of electronic components and light bulbs allows for rougher play and not worrying about breakage while using it in lightsabre to lightsabre clashing together play.'
h.You won't have to replace light bulbs that can break in rough play (as the other models have).
i.There are no sensitive electronic components to break if it accidentally gets wet or left outside and is rained on.
j.At this low price we can afford to buy a couple of extras for visiting children to play with.
k.All of the blade lengths are of equal length allowing for safer play (unlike the electronic models).
Our family recommends that you buy non-electronic models and buy some extra for friends to join in with imaginative play while they are visiting you!
Love this toy, but rated educational value as 1 as truly there is not much educational about this toy. I have no problem with this being non-educational, though, as my children have other venues to expand their education! Imaginative play is very important for children as is "unstructured free play time" and this falls into that category.

This toy fell apart about 2 seconds after taking out of the packaging. However, it was easily put back together and with a little super glue it should be o.k. for a while. My child enjoys playing with but was disappointed at the fact that it broke so soon.
