(More customer reviews)QUICK SUMMARY: My young Jedi warrior (8yo) was *so* excited this Christmas to receive this gift. He's owned *several* light sabers before, but this set is unique because it's DESIGNED for real swordplay. Whether it's designed for swordplay by an 8yo boy is yet to be seen. Recommended!
Background: My Star Wars-lovin' son has had a new light saber (of the $5 variety) for each of the last several years. The other light sabers were cool looking with multi-colored lights, but it didn't take much at all for them to break irreparably. Although this set is much more expensive, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the two light sabers are *intended* to be used in mock sword fights. Each strike of the light saber against any hard surface causes a Star Wars-type sound to emit from the saber, just like in the movies. The colored plastic that makes up the glowing saber is thick and has, so far, withstood several battles between my son and me. If this set withstands this kind of abuse for even a few months, it'll be money well-spent.
WHAT I LIKE:
- These light sabers are much more durable than anything we've bought before
- There are several configurations that are possible, where you can connect the light sabers together
- The extra gun adds an additional element of fun gameplay
- The gun came with batteries installed (not so the light sabers, though)
- It was one of my son's top toys this Christmas
- It's been fun dueling my son using the two light sabers
- The battle sounds emitted from the light sabers are fun and not too loud
WHAT I DO *NOT* LIKE:
- Since these light sabers allow for real battle, it's painful to get thwacked on the fingers by my young Jedi's light saber
- I also don't like the menacing eyes of my wife who is worrying about what my son and I are going to break as we do battle with one another
What could be BETTER:
- The actual light glowing from the light sabers really isn't all that bright
Conclusion: This toy is a real winner! I just hope that it lasts longer than the cheap-o light sabers we've bought before. Recommended, especially for young Jedi warriors!

Take on your "enemies" with this Electronic Battle Set modeled after the evil General Grievous character's weapons! Fend off "opponents" from a distance with your blaster accessory - when you pull the trigger, the barrel will light up and you'll hear electronic "blaster" sounds. If your "foes" get close enough for "hand-to-hand combat", call on your trusty lightsaber accessory. Start it out in double-bladed lightsaber mode with the gyro-grip in the center to make them spin. Press the buttons to "ignite" the "lightsabers" and to hear spinning, connection and power-activation humming sounds. Keep your "opponents" guessing as you change your lightsaber accessory into three more configurations: single lightsaber with a spinning lightsaber, two single lightsaber or a double-bladed lightsaber. With these sophisticated "weapons" and your skills, your "enemies" will get the "fight" of their lives!
