(More customer reviews)I bought this maquette at the San Diego Comic Con in 2008 and it is simply a joy to have on the shelf. Gentle Giant's productions of the famous Star Wars characters in animated style are all fantastic and all fun!
Stylistically, this maquette of Han Solo beats just a regular bust or more realistic statue simply because Gentle Giant has captured the Han Solo energy in almost lyrical detail. From every angle this maquette looks great and is pure joy to use as a reference for fun sketching. One of my favorite parts to this maquette is the way the free hand angles back its fingers. Just very cool!
The paint job is very nice. Because of its animated style, the colors are flat based with subtle hints of shading here and there. A nice touch is the highlighted paint on Han Solo's 'shiny' boots. Everything about these maquettes makes you smile.
In most cases, Gentle Giant maquettes are not for kids. They are delicate and their small parts break easily however, this Han Solo maquette sits on a nice heavy base and the inserted figure is made from one mold. I.E., no secondary parts to fall off when dusting. So, although I wouldn't recommend for younger kids, if your twelve and up year old is a Star Wars fan this maquette is a great pick for them.
All in all, if you enjoy collecting either Star Wars memorabilia or beautiful and/or awesome maquettes, or if this piece of pure awesome just appeals to you, you WILL enjoy him! I've never regretted spending the money. Enjoy.
