(More customer reviews)When the little boy gave him to me I was thrilled, and a wall to wall grin was plastered on the youngster's face. Until recently tiny Darth Tater occupied a place of honor on my monitor, separate from the rest of the Potato Head army in Spud Central. The figure is about two inches tall, solid and durable, with a metal ring embedded in his pierced hand with what appears to be a key holder attached to it via a three link chain. This little Darth Tater, a mini version of Playskool's full size Mr. Potato Head Darth Tater, is not a pose-able action figure, his limbs, mask, helmet, cape, boots, and even light saber permanently attached, all in molded, rigid plastic.
I initially assumed that this little guy was a keychain. He's a bit too bulky to carry in my pocket and then there was always the embarrassing questioning. " Is that a Darth Tater keychain in your pocket, or are you happy to see me?" Thus Darth's life as a keychain was short-lived. Now I've learned that this diminutive Darth is not a keychain, but a Star Wars backpack dangler. It was designed for attaching to backpacks, hanging as ornaments and, yes, even for using as a keychain. Other danglers in the series are a Darth Vader dangler, a Han dangler, and a Luke dangler. The toys never seemed to have caught on and may not be easy to find. Perhaps the timing was wrong. Perhaps the lack of moving parts hurt their appeal.
The clasp on the keychain ring is nicely designed. It pushes inward easily for hanging or for adding keys. Its durability is questionable in the hands of a four-year-old
I like my little Darth Tater backpack dangler on its own merits and because of how I came to own it. This little toy may be of interest to Star Wars fans or collectors of things Potato Head.
