K'Nex is a fantastic toy that allow children's imaginations to run wild, while working their spacial reasoning. The pieces fit together along multiple planes, so creations can get quite a bit more complex that with many other building toys. The basic sets include rods and connectors. The rods come a variety of lengths, and the connectors make it easy to make corners in 30-degree increments. In order of piece size, you can get Kids' K'Nex (not in this kit, and large for little hands), standard K'Nex (included in this kit) and micro K'Nex (included included in this kit). Adapter connectors are available to include pieces of different lines in a single construction, but they don't come standard.
This Set
The blocks in this set (the vast majority of the pieces) are K'Nex brand, but compatible with regular Lego and Duplo blocks, so that is a huge plus. Several of the brick piecesThere are relatively few traditional K'nex pieces in the box, and they include both standard K'Nex pieces and micro K'Nex pieces. The inclusion of adapter pieces makes this set a good bridge between building blocks and K'Nex, especially if you have a large collection of K'Nex already. It is not for someone looking to start a K'Nex collection. There simply aren't enough rods and connectors to build anything particularly satisfying without pulling the bricks in. Many of the bricks are the standard type you would expect to see in a basic Lego set, but quite a few of them have holes that the K'Nex adapters fit into. There are also a few wheels included.
The container is about a quarter filled by the included pieces, but it's very sturdy and can be used as primary storage for all your children's (or your!) building toy pieces.
