This Sandtrooper figure was part of the early wave of Kenner's 12" Collector Series line. It's not the work of art that the later Sideshow figures are, but I really enjoyed collecting the `90s 12" figure line, particularly the masked Imperials.
Pros - This is a very cool looking figure. The outfit is detailed, and the accessories - the backpack, shoulder guard and long rifle - are really impressive. The "sand damage" paint job was another nice touch.
Cons - Like the basic Star Wars Collector Series 12" Stormtrooper Figure figure, this would have benefited from a less rubbery armor type. The backpack has a tendency to fall off, and the articulation isn't quite good enough to have the trooper hold the rifle in two hands without looking forced.
It's not nearly as impressive as the later Sideshow Star Wars Sandtrooper: Squad Leader (Orange Pad) Militaries of Star Wars 12" Figure, but this Sandtrooper is still a very cool addition to the 12" Star Wars Collector Series.
Edition Notes: The early version of the Sandtrooper figure came with an orange shoulder guard and had the original style packaging (with a photo on the front flap). It was exclusive to comic book retailers and was tough to come by for a while. Later versions came in the open-front green box and had a white shoulder guard, as well as a tiny Imperial droid (the one that was buzzing around Mos Eisley in the Special Edition of A New Hope). This, naturally, required me to buy both versions, because I am that much of a geek.
