(More customer reviews)My son is getting into Star Wars in a big way, so we decided to get him this Electronic Lightsaber to go with his Darth Vader Halloween costume. For the most part, this Lightsaber is a very cool toy, but it's not perfect.
The Pros: The light and especially the sound are the toy's best features. It makes that "snap-hiss" sound when lit, and has a "whoosh" sound when you swing it, plus (and this is the best part) a crackling sound when you hit it against something (preferably another Lightsaber). This is a TON of fun to play with. I...I mean, my son...didn't want to put it down! It's pretty durable too. It has so far survived a drop to the sidewalk and some pretty intense Lightsaber battles. It also comes with a tiny, 15-minute DVD that showcases some of the Star Wars saga's best Lightsaber battles.
The Cons: My only real gripe is that the blade doesn't fully collapse. Two of the three plastic tubes collapse, but the largest one, which is connected to the hilt, has to remain extended. It kind of defeats the purpose of having it hang from Vader's belt. I get why it can't collapse fully (it would interfere with the electronics), but for the sake of the costume the cheaper non-electronic Darth Vader Lightsaber would have been a better bet. The automatic extension that the Star Wars Darth Vader Force Action Lightsaber had also would have been nice.
It's not perfect, but it is a lot of fun. I'd definitely recommend it to the young Jedi in your family.
